Press Release: Call for Submissions from Kevin Cordi.
Posted: 2005-07-20 By SNStaff

We received the following Press Release. If you wish to respond, please use the contact information in the article:

A Call for Submissions
By Kevin D. Cordi

Newly assigned guest editor for Nov/Dec Storytelling Magazine

Webster’s dictionary defines "pulse" as a rhythmic beating, vibrating, or sounding. For over thirty years the pulse of storytelling has continued, but lately that pulse is changing. Initially the pulse started with a traditional storytelling format, however, over time it has accelerated to include far more rhythm and in some cases sounds altogether. As storytellers and those who work with story we need to first define the pulse of storytelling and then understand how the pulse of story can meet the pulse and demands of the modern storytelling audience.

This issue of Storytelling Magazine will concentrate on two focus areas. One the young people, ages 18 and under, who are hearing the pulse for the first time. How can we help students learn the value of telling stories? How can we assist our youth in discovering the joy of story? How can students add their pulse to the storytelling revival? What should we know when working with youth?

The second area will be an examination of the modern pulse of storytelling. In other words, non-traditional means of viewing stories told in a modern way or to appeal to a modern audience. It will focus on how storytelling is changing or should change to meet the needs of new voices, mainly voices of the next generation of storytelling.

I invite you to submit or send an inquiry concerning an article to be possibly including in the Nov/Dec issue of Storytelling Magazine. However, I am on a tight deadline. The deadline for entries is August 3. The length is 650 to 1950 words, in 12 point text font. Longer submissions may be edited to allow for more articles. This is not to say that longer articles will not be accepted. Please send to kcteller@sbcglobal.net or kctells@youthstorytelling.com if you would me to consider your article. Please include Storytelling Magazine Submission in the heading.

Even though time is short, I am broadcasting this Call for Submissions because I want to reach out to include all the efforts of others in working with youth or meeting the modern pulse of storytelling. I would appreciate your submission to show the full spectrum of work and ideas available.

Since this work is vital to the storytelling community, I would like to share the articles beyond the scope of the magazine. With permission from the authors, I am exploring having the articles submitted also posted on-line for others to read. This could be on my website which over 12 million people have visited since 1996. In other words, I am not limited by the space of the magazine for sharing your article. If you approve of sharing your article on-line, please let me know with your submission.

The pulse is changing for storytelling. There is room for traditional telling and non-traditional telling. People are becoming aware of the possibilities in storytelling. I thank you for considering submitting your work to help us find a new way to enter the storytelling generation.

If you intend to write an article and in order to avoid numerous articles on the same subject please email me a notice of interest including:

Your Name

Possible Title of the Article

Contact Information, especially email

And a short paragraph about the intended article. I will do my best to tell you if the article has already been suggested.

Deadline for complete entries is August 3. The sooner I am able to view the article, the more I am likely to respond to including it in the magazine and/or website.
